FIRST PLACE - JUNIOR - CREATIVE WRITING
EXERCISE
Eat healthy, eat right.
Exercise more and don’t fight.
Don’t drink, don’t smoke,
otherwise it will make you choke.
Tell your friends that it is wrong
and someday they will get along.
Don’t be on the streets stay in school.
Then everyone will think that you are cool.
Do good things, be smart.
And when it comes to drugs, don’t start.
One, Two, Three, Four, Five, lets all try to exercise.
Five, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty, don’t sell drugs just for money.

SECOND PLACE - JUNIOR - CREATIVE WRITING
Best Friend
A best friend is some-one
you can talk to.
A best friend is some-one
that is there.
A best friend is some-one
that can call you.
A best friend is some-one
that cares.
A best friend is there
when times are bad.
A best friend is there
to make you glad.
When the time comes you
will find out
that your best friend
Is your best friend
Without a doubt.
-- Brittany Archie, Benning Elementary School

WHAT I DO FOR MY COMMUNITY
Every time I climb a tree
to help a cat I skin my
knee. Or scrape a leg
And every time I climb
a tree to help a cat I find
some ants or dodge a bee
and get the ants all
over me
And every time I climb a
tree to help a cat Where
have you been? Every time
I see a bee I yell and shout
and say ewwe!!! Every
time I yell and shout people
look and say what’s wrong.
-- Tonya Elliott, Smothers Elementary School

HONORABLE MENTION - JUNIOR - CREATIVE WRITING
HOW CAN CREATIVITY MAKE OUR COMMUNITY A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN?
I think that creativity can make our community a better place to live in by ……………….. cleaning up the street, enforcing more laws, having more police men, giving the homeless more shelter and keeping as many people off the street as possible. I also think that there should be more nurseries for the elderly who don’t have any family to take care of them or they are too sick to stay with a relative.
If you get a lot of people together and clean up the streets then they will influence other children and teenagers to not litter and they will influence other children. The idea of this is to make the community cleaner so that when you go outside you will be happy to see that everything is clean and the area looks so much better.
Another way we can help our community is by enforcing all of the laws more. If we enforce the laws more then maybe the citizens in the community will start obeying them. Everyone hates getting a ticket for driving too fast or getting slammed into the hood of a police car, even though, sometimes they deserve to be handled in that manner.
I believe that getting more homeless people off the street can make our community a better place to live in. If we help homeless people they can help themselves by getting a job, paying for a house, raising a family, and living a normal life. Anything is better than being on the streets, with no food or shelter.
Also another way to be creative in helping our community is by caring for our elders. Those who are in the hospital who rarely get to see their family need care and support to go on living. They need to be kept alive as long as possible because they can teach their grandchildren not be respectful to their parents and teachers.
There are many ways to make our community a better place to live in. But the only way we can do that is if helps each other I their time of need.
FRIENDS
If you help one another
You will become
Friends with each other
When you are in
time of need, your
friend will be there
asap. Never fight
with each other
or you will make
the situation worse.
I like to call that
the devil’s curse. I
have a best friend
that is close to me.
I love her no matter
what, even when she
gets mean. This girl
is my sister, Janessa
Danielle Clark. I love
her with every
inch of my heart.
--Jenise Clark, Smothers Elementary School

LOST THEN FOUND BY HIM UP THERE!
I was lost once! I wasn’t found until 12 years later by him up there. I didn’t know who I was until 12 years later. I ran the streets and did no work all day. I was found by him up there. I never listened to people. I rode I stolen cars but, I was found. Found 12 years by him up there. I thought to myself how long it was going to take me to find myself but it wasn’t me I was found by him up there.

TRUE, BLUE, AND NO CLUE
Very seldom I’m blue at these times I am true.
There are times when I have no clue and still I remain true.
I’m true to my family, I am true to my friends.
I’m true to my enemies and no matter blue or no clue trust and
believe I will always be true to you.
--Racquel Dunbar, Kenilworth Elementary School

MY SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY
My school and community is great to me.
There are so much Delightful things to see.
I always try to be the best I can be.
My teachers are all great to me, we
Follow the Rules they set before us
that’s why I feel so much security and trust.
My friends and I pray during the day,
But when school starts we go by the books
and do what they say. I go to bed at night
and say a prayer. I can’t wait for tomorrow to
get there. I wake up in the morning about a
quarter to seven knowing that school is truly a blessing.
So as you can see I’m not no [illegible]
--Tyonna Queen, Benning Elementary School
